Root canal treatment is an extremely difficult procedure, yet in Japan, pulp removal and retreatment are often performed without careful consideration. Whether at our own clinic or another clinic, we encounter cases every day where root canal treatment has been performed under health insurance in the past but still has problems, or where an initial root canal treatment is performed and an aesthetic prosthesis is fitted, or where retreatment is desired to be avoided as much as possible from a long-term perspective.
In Japanese dental practice, where it is difficult to create an environment for appropriate endodontic treatment, this has become a problem that can be considered a social issue.

Our clinic in Ogikubo accepts refarrals of patients who require more precise endodontic treatment. We will treat the areas referred to us responsibly. We will also report on the details and progress of each patient’s treatment. After treatment is complete, we will ensure that the treatment plan proceeds smoothly when you return to the referring dental clinic. Please rest assured that we also accept a wide range of patients from outside Ogikubo .

We hope that by collaborating with our clinic, you will be able to solve any problems you may have regarding endodontic treatment, rather than having to deal with them at your own dental clinic.

To patients considering requesting treatment

If pain develops in the tooth nerve or infection spreads, root canal treatment is required. Redoing this treatment (retreatment) can sometimes require an important decision on whether the tooth can be saved.

Q. What should the form and format of the refarral form be?

A. There is no specific format.
Please create a refarral letter using the medical information provided by your local dental association or the data stored in your dental software. If you include the email address of your regular dental clinic, this will help ensure smooth communication and subsequent reports. We appreciate your cooperation.

Q. How do I send a refarral form?

A. Please give it to the patient.
If you have past documents such as X-rays that you can provide without having to return them, please give them to the patient as printed documents or digital copies.
If you are busy and find it difficult to give the refarral letter to the patient on the same day, please fax or mail it to us before their first visit to our clinic.

Q.  Please tell me about visit reports and progress reports.

A. For patients with a refarral letter, we submit reports to the referring dental clinic after the consultation, after treatment is completed, and at each follow-up.
If you include the email address of your family dental clinic in the initial refarral letter we receive, this will ensure smooth communication. We appreciate your cooperation.

Patients who wish to visit our hospital

Q. Can I have my regular doctor write the refarral letter?

A. Just like when requesting wisdom tooth extraction at a university hospital, please fill out the requested area, disease name, and treatment history to the extent that you know, along with your personal information such as your name, gender, and date of birth.
Please be aware that if there is a mistake, such as making a mistake in the left or right or first or second tooth location, it will take time to confirm and examine the tooth.

Q.  If I have a refarral form, is it better to make a reservation online or by phone?

A.Online reservations are available 24 hours a day, making them convenient.
In that case, please select “I have a refarral letter” in the online questionnaire and proceed to the next questions.
If you have special circumstances (such as restrictions on the treatment period due to overseas transfers or childbirth plans), please contact us by phone.

Q. Can I make a reservation without a refarral form?

A. If you do not have a refarral letter, we will provide an examination (examination, diagnosis, and treatment suggestions), but it will only be a treatment consultation and we will not be able to provide any specific treatment after that.
This is because treatment cannot begin without a regular dental clinic that can provide restorative and prosthetic treatment following endodontic treatment, as well as full-mouth caries management and periodontal disease prevention. If you would like to consult about a dental problem you are currently having, please select “without a refarral letter” when making an online reservation and make an appointment for a treatment consultation.
